The fall of an idol? Really??

(Anonymous)
Can we please talk about this rhino scavenger hunt thing thats apparently turning Misha-fandom into Lord of the Flies? Or at least lol about it together?

Tricksy Misha. I like.

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

I'm loling. These poor, poor fans who were forced to send Misha fan letters and coerced into doing the scavenger hunt and now are being treated so badly that they were given a chance to win even if they weren't the first teams to put the puzzle together. That Misha, what a bastard.

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

Just so I'm clear - all of that angst is because that chick wants "a piece of rhino"???? Like, that actor is straight up going to carve an effing rhino into little bits, and all of these freaks are potentially fighting over little bits of dead actor rhino? Is that right???

LOL, what, last I saw on meme is that it was spreading sunshine and rainbows and uniting the fandom. Deets!

Also do you think Misha is lurking online somewhere rubbing his hands and grinning at the chaos he has unleashed? Or would he just get hils to report back to him?

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

Wha?

What are you talking about, nonnie? All I know is that Misha sent a rhino puzzle to everyone who sent him stamped envelopes or something, and now there are 2 (or more) comms dedicated to solving those puzzles. What else am I missing? IS THERE AN UPROAR OVER ALL THIS SOMEWHERE? :D

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

(Anonymous)
Ho boy. Yup. See hils' journal.

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

Details, man, where are they?

Link for the lazy: http://hils.livejournal.com/4172394.html#cutid1

My reaction: LOOOOOOL. When I read Misha's instructions they struck me as something someone would make up to sound too absurd to ever be followed. So being somehow shocked and appalled when those instructions don't hold up to close scrutiny strikes me as pretty ridiculous and childish.

Sadly this just reeks of a social experiment to me. I'm just imagining Misha watching us all turning on each other and knowing that he made it happen with just a few words. It's just really disappointed me. I thought he was better than that.

lololol.

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

na See, nonnie, I was going to read it but then I had to stop at "the WB had promised him a live rhino if SPN got onto the cover of TV guide and that he'd share it with us if he won".

I mean, if these people are taking anything seriously after that then... they're doing it wrong. (Holy shit, do they need to hit the pause button and get back to sane land.)

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

WTF is wrong with hils? I thought she was a nice enough person, albeit a little creepily over-enthusiastic about Misha, but now, seriously??? Who are these crazy people who are taking this rhino puzzle that seriously?

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

(Anonymous)
It generally helps if you don't idolize real people to begin with.

And I love how people are apparently turning on each other over a prize that, as far as I can tell (?), hasn't been stated and may not even exist.

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

(Anonymous)
If you take a cute but silly rhino puzzle as seriously as hils appears to be, you deserve to be mocked as part of a social experiment.

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

(Anonymous)
Oh, the schadenfreude.

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

I feel bad people (friends even) are so upset but it's kind of head-scratching when you remember that it's MISHA we're talking about. He's part evil mastermind, part flying by the seat of his pants. And that's why I adore him. Shrug.

The man who studied sociology at Chicago, the man I'm 90% certain SAID in one of his earliest video interviews that fandom fascinated him and that he supposed a social experiment would be fascinating to conduct is in fact doing one ...

<_< >_> <_<

I'm a fan of Misha and I'm not surprised. The rules of the scavenger hunt itself (re no duplicates etc) are all standards. Now I want to go back to the comms and see how its all coming apart at the seams. Either way I doubt he's being deliberately malicious.

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

(Anonymous)
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha oh god people in comments there are talking about sending 'protest emails'. I just hope Misha is laughing as hard as I am at all this. Or potentially facepalming that (some of) his fans are seriously this dumb and overinvested.

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

(Anonymous)
I felt like I was a performing monkey for Misha's amusement.

Oh my god, hils, have you only just realised? oh my goddddddd hils, seriously, have you checked who you're fangirling?

I was mostly of the belief that fandom liked Misha because he's a sarcastic minx of a troll, not in spite of.

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

Cool, maybe now this Misha Worshipping can slow down a fraction.

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

I read through this whole thread and everybody's talking about the fan response and nobody's talking about the CHILD IN A BATHTUB FULL OF CRANBERRIES?

I don't like the idea of trying to talk your fans into putting children through B.S. Plus, I'm now morbidly curious what the other items on the list are.

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

(Anonymous)
Um... does she even know what is going on with other teams? She is acting like she speaks for us all. My team is not having these issues. We've been having a blast doing the stuff and are sending in intentional duplicated because we think they will amuse him. He is amusing us with this shit, so we are trying to amuse him right back.

Huh, makes me wonder what is up with other teams?

As of yet, not a single person on our team has speculated about what the prize might be, at least not where the rest of the team can see it, we are just enjoying round 2.

Talk about a mountain out of a mole-Hils.

Comment from someone else on her team "Is it just that one person that's being mean on our team? I haven't noticed anyone else being an ass but her, but then again I'm really only scanning comments to make sure no one's snagged my claimed item yet."

I've got friends on 3 different teams and am on a team myself .. this is the first I've heard of any discord that wasn't quickly smoothed over. Though, who knows, maybe some other team has gone nuts.

Things I didn't realize or connect:

Misha Collins attended the University of Chicago.

Guess what UofC has every year?

Scav Hunt. (http://scavhunt.uchicago.edu/index.html)

Re: The fall of an idol? Really??

Misha is almost enough to make me get a Twitter account. Being one of his (more sane) minions would be so much fun.

But watching the experiment from here is twice as entertaining! 8D
