Jared interview part 2--SPoilers

(Anonymous)
http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/10/supernaturals-jared-padalecki-on-sams-relationship-with-amelia-it-begs-further-questions.html

More Amelia stuff at least

[Spoiler (click to open)]
"We do find that out," Jared Padalecki told us when we visited him on set during filming of the upcoming episode "Citizen Fang." "That's actually one of the cruxes of this current episode that we're shooting, and the next one, actually, so Liane [Balaban] has been around a lot this past week and she's coming back. I'm shooting with her tomorrow. We do find out when and why, and it begs a few further questions."

Since Sam's cell phone was turned off, we know he didn't leave her because of a phone call from Dean, and he's obviously still pretty hung up on her, given the rose-colored flashback we saw a couple weeks ago. "We see in Sam at the beginning of the season that she's not dead to him. It's not like 'Ugh, whew. Done,'" Jared says. "He still has something for her, even if it's just the idea of being able to settle down and have a woman in [his] life ... it's a very, very good reason, why Sam and Amelia go their separate ways, and I'm happy that we get to see that."

Re: Sam meeting Benny:

[Spoiler (click to open)]In this week's episode, "Blood Brother," Sam finally meets Dean's secret monster friend from Purgatory. If you'll recall, Sam's been in a similar situation, when he developed a morally questionable bond with Ruby while Dean was out of the picture. "[Benny] does have a lot of parallels with Ruby," Jared says. "I find myself in the flip position of where I was four years ago. It provides for a lot of moments between Sam and Dean, of going 'Dude, you said to me what I'm now saying to you in a different situation.' And Ruby was a lot hotter than Benny, so I should've had more understanding from you. Maybe I'm biased," he laughs.

Sam and Benny don't really get a chance to know each other before stuff hits the fan. "It's a quick introduction," says Jared. "Sam and Benny don't get to go out, have a beer, figure out what's what. It's a very abrupt, unexpected, 'Who is this?' because Dean has never been real forthright with Sam about who he was talking to ... but we see Sam kind of go, 'Whoa, whoa, whoa. Something's not right.'"

I'm detecting anti-S6/7 bias, but that could just be Jared fanwanking enthusiasm for the current season

See this part kind of makes me sad:

[Spoiler (click to open)]Even in its weakest moments, the relationship between the brothers is the cornerstone of the series, and Jared says that exploring other relationships will only serve to drive home how crucial the Winchesters' bond is. "[If they only have each other] it's not as much of a sacrifice, as if Dean is having to step away from this friend that he made in Purgatory, I'm having to step away from a woman that I still love, you know, knowing she's out there."

To me it reads like they are together because they feel the most obligation to each other, not because they actually like each other and choose each other

Re: Jared interview part 2--SPoilers

Nonnie who was posting earlier about not wanting sacrificial Sam and Dean agrees in finding this depressing.

Re: Jared interview part 2--SPoilers

Dean and Sam are together right now out of obligation and it is definitely not to each other. Sam wants to close the gates of hell. Bottom line. It has nothing to do with Dean.

I read this spoiler different. Probably because I am so desperate for any indication that the brothers even like each other anymore, but I took it to mean that eventually Sam and Dean will choose each other over Benny and Amelia. When push comes to shove, their choice will be each other and their life on the road hunting together. They will be sacrificing those other relationships for each other.

I dunno. I don't feel like the relationship between the brothers hasn't been the cornerstone of the series since Season 5. And I think that is part of why seasons 6 and 7 felt so weak.

Man, IDGI, because I love the sound of this when they say it, but hate what I'm seeing on screen. :/ They just seem so passive aggressive and blah about it all. Even if they were actively fighting it'd seem like they were still interested in and concerned about each other, and not just trapped together because the show's premise requires it. The dispassionate, muted interactions we're getting are just so boring to watch and difficult to feel invested in.

Re: Jared interview part 2--SPoilers

That, I think, might be due to improve. At least, the spoiler pics make their poses look a lot more confrontational. I think the dynamic may be more conducive to progress than Dean guilt-tripping Sam and Sam taking it and then Sam turning Dean down and Dean taking it.

Carver thinks physical proximity = brotherly bond. It becomes more and more apparent with every spoiler and interview that he has absolutely no idea what the "cornerstone" of the series is.

da

It just feels weird to me that having any sort of relationship outside of the other has to be "sacrificed" in order to keep Sam and Dean together. Why shouldn't Sam be able to have a lover or Dean a close friend? Why should those other bonds mean that the one between Sam and Dean means anything less?

Unless Jared is trying to tell us that it really is canon that Sam and Dean only have so many love points and once they're used up, they're gone forever. D:

It feels like such a weak storytelling and characterization technique to me and yeah, very passive aggressive. They're telling us that Sam and Dean choose each other over these other characters who Sam and Dean both seem to like a whole lot more than each other but they don't bother to tell us why. Why does Sam choose Dean over Amelia? Why does Dean choose Sam over Benny or Cas? (Or choose Benny over Cas?)

Show us these things, Carver, don't just tell us them! It makes so much difference to see why they want to be with each other more than anyone else! If you don't give us that, you are just showing us an unhealthy, diseased relationship that makes both of them miserable when there are clearly other options out there who would make them happy.

Jared, I love you, but even for you I won't watch this shit. This is the exact same thing they've been trying to sell us since Comic Con. Not one new spoiler for Sam in over four months. And since Jared knows what's coming up several episodes in advance, that's extra depressing.

"Face value..."

Apropos of this interview, are they still filming 8.10, or are they on 8.11 now? Since he says that some stuff is a crux of the currently filming ep and the one after it.

SA

And, hmm, wasn't this actually recorded a week or so ago? She released the interviews before different episodes, but I think she did them at the same time. So I think that would be 8.10 and 8.11, then.

Re: Jared interview part 2--SPoilers

We've discussed the meta aspects of the whole sacrificing other relationships thing, but here's what I don't get: how are they going to handle that, if that's where they are going, in Doylespace? Because extratextually the reason for developing other relationships is to give both Js time off, and I can't imagine that that is a consideration that applies only to this season. Are they planning to do different external relationships every season, and bring Sam and Dean back to each other only to cycle through the whole thing again? Wouldn't it make more sense to just keep Benny and Amelia and have Sam and Dean work out a way to have each other and also others? Except that would cut off what they seem to think of as necessary dramatic tension for the future.

Re: Jared interview part 2--SPoilers

(Anonymous)
Dean getting new supernatural brothers is a good recipe for tension. Next season, a werewolf bro?

Re: Jared interview part 2--SPoilers

Tell Jensen he owes me a refund for ruining Jared's interview. I'm not laughing here. Sam's gotten the Blame Game - yet again this season - he's the mystery when there should be no mystery. Unless the mystery is that Sam actually DID save Dean from Purgatory, I'm not sure I know what to look forward to so far. i'm glad Jared is happy though, but he's always happy, it seems like. I don't mind Amelia at all. What I do mind is Dean having more time for his 'boyfriends' than Sam does with his girlfriend. I don't want Amelia to be an idea; I want her to be a person, and she has to learn about Sam's real life, or it won't make any sense on a show like this. We should know as much about Sam as we do about Dean. Period. No excuses.

wow! and whoever said the comment sections are dominated by EDG?!! Most of the comments are by crey crey ESGs.

Re: Jared interview part 2--SPoilers

(Anonymous)
huh? I don't see any comments about EDGs in this thread...I think you're confusing the comments about this article with the other one that was linked.
