Jensen video interview--spoilers

(Anonymous)
http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/10/supernatural-star-jensen-ackles-on-dean-winchesters-post-purgatory-mindset-he-just-spent-a-year-in-t.html

Not much new stuff, again. Sounds like they haven't done much with the Sam & Dean issue yet, and are putting if off

[Spoiler (click to open)]Obviously, Dean has issues with him," he says. "We've already seen that. I think that he is almost kind of sloughing it off as 'I don't know why you did that. You're weird. You've always been weird to me; I've never fully understood you, but I'm back, so get your ass in gear. Let's do this s***."

Given the knowledge that Sam has no intention of sticking with him after they find the tablet and banish the demons, Dean is still stubbornly refusing to believe that Sam will follow through on ditching the life they've led for so long. "I think that he doesn't necessarily want to validate what Sam did by acknowledging it. ... Dean's a very healthy guy when it comes to emotions," Jensen jokes. "You've also got to remember that Dean has just spent, basically, a year in the trenches. He was off at war."

In his own way, Dean, too, is struggling to find his own footing in their old life. "There was reference to this a few seasons ago, but I don't think it was as spot on as it is now. In the movie 'The Hurt Locker' when Jeremy Renner's character is back stateside and he's like standing in a cereal aisle with a wall of choices of cereal, and he's standing there going 'This is not normal.' Because what was normal to him was mortar sounds and gunfire and being in the trenches and having to wake up every day wondering if you're going to live to go to sleep that night," Jensen recalls. "Dean has just basically come back from essentially, that. He was at war in Purgatory."

It looks like Dean will deal with the reality of Sam leaving only if Sam actually leaves. "As of right now I think Dean is kind of sweeping it under the rug and not wanting to deal with the fact that his brother was a pansy for a year," Jensen laughs.

na

Wow, Jensen. I can't even... :/

It's amazing how she managed to not really get any new news on her set visit.

his brother was a pansy for a year

Oh, Jensen. You can always be relied on to bring that bit of offensive. Seriously, "pansy"? I hope that's speaking in character, and it's Dean's macho front rather than the actor's views.

Another homophobic slur from Jensen? He's an asshole.

Re: Jensen video interview--spoilers

Well, maybe they're both doing interviews in character now.

To be honest, I'm glad if they haven't done much with the Sam & Dean issue yet. I want them to have a lot of time to think better of some of their characterization before they nail things down in unchangeably canon canon.

Re: Jensen video interview--spoilers

I'm kind of sad because usually Jensen is the one that raves about the brother relationship. But this time we get him saying that Sam's "weird" (and a pansy, wtf)and that Dean never understood him. I mean, did they learn NOTHING about each other over the past 7 years?

I'm a hardcore Deangirl but I'm =\ right now

Re: Jensen video interview--spoilers

I'd be interested in the whole "year in the trenches" mindset except that you'd think the 40 years he spent in Hell would be brought up somehow or play a role in all of this, and nope. Apparently not. It's like they didn't even happen.

Meh.

It feels even moreso like they're trying to shove that early S1 characterization back in place. Dean not understanding why Sam would want to live a normal life, Sam being a bit resentful of Dean for dragging him out of said normal life to begin with - they've just chopped away seven years of character development. I hope it does get dragged out sooner rather than later because I'm stick of it and want it to go away already.

I don't have an issue with Dean thinking Sam's weird because that's a pretty normal sibling reaction, IMO - I know my brother can be pretty weird sometimes and I don't always understand him or his life choices.

The rest of it, eh. I'm really hoping he isn't talking in character as Dean about Sam being a "pansy" because what would that mean for Dean's year with Lisa? Was he being a "pansy" then? Are all of the nonhunters out there pansies? Or even the hunters who have suffered and need to take time back, like what's his face from Sam, Interrupted? It doesn't feel like something Dean would say. I don't think that Dean has mentally divided humanity into Dicks (fuckers who do bad things), Heroes (hunters), and Pansies (everyone else).

I think the interrogation scenes are a clear reference to his time in Hell.

Re: Jensen video interview--spoilers

What the hell? I have pretty much accepted that they threw Sam's characterization out the window to create this "drama", but why are they also writing Dean like an ass who cannot even begin to fathom why Sam might want to get out of the hunting life? Dean himself spent the last 3 years being miserable and depressed and he knew that it was because of hunting. He can't be that self-involved that he doesn't understand that other people have feelings too...can he?

Re: Jensen video interview--spoilers

I don't know if it's accidental (he hadn't had time to catch up when establishing stuff) or deliberate ("hot mess"), but it does seem like s6 and s7 have very little impact on Carver. Now, Dean was certainly suicidally depressed at points in s5, but I don't think that was about hunting, really; more the big mytharc stuff and Sam. It was in s6, especially, that his depression was very strongly linked to his role as hunter. So it doesn't surprise me that current canon Dean can't relate his feelings then to Sam's feelings now, because I'm not sure his feelings then 100% exist in this timeline.

cadlymack tweeted that part 2 (she's posting it next week) is going to have more on Dean & Cas's relationship. It'll be interesting to see how that contrasts to the utter clusterfuck that is the current Sam & Dean relationship

Re: Jensen video interview--spoilers

Things aren't that bad, I'm sure we'll get to see more of Sam and why he's acting this way. Jensen saying Sam is weird is nothing surprising, Sam have been acting weird and I think we're going to see why and what might be wrong with him. Maybe Castiel will help Sam.

I don't think what's wrong with Sam is a curse, a spell or something like that, I believe (for what I have seen so far) Sam lost hope and went though the motions. And now with Dean back Sam doesn't know what to do with his brother.

Re: Jensen video interview--spoilers

god there's something about the way she interviews him that annoys the crap out of me.

I'm really not sure where the pansy comment came from. like, is Sam less of a man for not hunting? is hunting indicative of manliness and choosing the normal~ life is somehow emasculating? I just don't see that in Dean's mindset, I mean he took a year off and did the domestic routine himself at one point.

and as a completely irrelevant sidenote I want to know where he got the mark on his chin and his middle finger. these things matter to me.
