Word Count: 18,036 (including notes)

Summary: Five men. Two angels. One demon. One last chance to stop the Apocalypse before it starts. Can one disaster serve as cover to prevent another, or will history repeat itself after all?

I'm interested in the story, but I have to say that the Howard Pyle-esque dialog is really putting me off. I get that the author wants to convey that the story takes place in the past, but there are plenty of ways to do that without mangling Early Modern English. We're not all Shakespeare, but the way people are speaking is just painful to read.

Speaking of which, if the author is trying not to use anachronistic speech, it would be a good idea not to use a version of English that wasn't spoken until about four hundred years after the time period in which the story is set. I kind of wish she'd just gone for simply writing everything in Modern English and trusting the descriptions and word choices to make her setting for her. It's obvious she took some care with this story, and I think she could have pulled it off.

That complaint aside, I'm enjoying this. It's something of a re-telling, but so far the situations and characters are interesting enough to keep me reading.
